Manali Tour Overview

At an altitude of 14100 ft, be prepared to experience a mix of easy and difficult trails through thick pine forests, open meadows, adrenaline pumping waterways that involves an adventurous crossing of a high altitude pass (of course with incredible views of glacial valleys!). It has everything from crossing rivers to climbing boulders! And the beauty is something which is too much to absorb! Another reason why Hampta pass is famous trekking zone is snow; the pass has lump sum snow! Generally, it takes 5 days to complete the Hampta pass trek, but one more day is further added to the itinerary so that there is enough time for acclimatisation and of course, to visit the well-known and striking Chandratal, a high altitude alpine lake few hours from Chhatru.

About Hampta pass

Hampta Pass lies at an altitude of 4270 m (14100 ft) on the Pir Panjal range in the Himalayas. It is a small corridor between Lahaul and Kullu valley of Himachal Pradesh. The terrain changes from a green paradise to a rocky cold desert in just a few meters across the pass.It is also known to be the road to heaven, (as it was the route taken by Yudhishthira on his ascent to heaven). Manali Tour Itinerary

Day 1
Ensure you reach Prini (3 km from Manali)by 11:45 AM. We will arrange for lunch and transportation from Prini. The drive from Prini to Jobra lasts about 1.5 hours and takes you up through 42 hairpin bends.
Day 2
Trek from Jobra to Jwara (Altitude: 9,800 ft to 11,072 ft, 5-6 hours, 7 km) The trek starts from Jobra through a mixed forest of pine, bright green maple trees and luminescent silver birches which opens to grasslands of Chikha. This is followed bya valley walk that leads to Jwara, a scenic-sheltered valley with snow-clad rocks and mountains. It is our campsite for the day!
Day 3
Trek from Jwara to Balu Ka Gera (Altitude: 11,072 ft to 12,411 ft, 4-5 hours, 5 km)
From Jwara the next destination would be the “Balu Ka Gera” which is essentially a territory of bears named so because of the bears making it the hibernation grounds during the winter season. Just Kidding! Balu ka Gera means heap of sand some people say that it's Bhalu ka gera but it's Balu i.e. sand. Balu ka gera campsite is plain sand ground which is just below the Hampta Pass. There are no trees and being at that altitude makes the clouds float closer to the grounds (this short is to get acclimatised and prepare for the next day).Overnight stay in tents
Day 4
Trek from Balu Ka Gera to Shea Goru via Hampta Pass(Altitude: 12,411 ft to 12,254 ft via 14,035 ft, 10-11 hours, 6.5 km)
Today weather and trail conditions will decide what time we leave but it’s going to be an early morning departure! The walk is in all probability going to be partially/completely on snow depending upon season and weather conditions. From the camp we start with a steep climb through the ridges that leads to the pass (4-5 hrs). Indrasan and Deotibba peaks completely dominate the landscape and the ranges towards Lahaul look quite majestic. After spending some time there we start climbing down towards Shea Goru, the river side campsite (2-3 hrs). Overnight stay in tents.
Day 5
Trek from Shea Goru to Chhatru, drive to Chandratal and back to Chhatru(Altitude: 12,254 ft to 10,898 ft to 14,100 ft,4 – 4.5 hours; 6.87 km) Chhatru would be our destination today and reaching there will be easy as it mostly comprises of long descent through the slopes and a valley carved out by the Chandra river can be reached. From Chhatru ,board taxi for a road journey to Chandratal. Drive to “Chandratal” lake which is well known for it’s reflection of the blue skies and surrounding mountains and suffice to say is an ideal photography spot known for it resplendent natural beauty. After spending some time at Chandratal return to Chhatru by the evening. Camp in Chhatru .
Please note that the road to chandratal is closed at times due to landslides or snow. In case the road is found closed, the Chandratal drive will not be done.
Day 6
Post the relaxing phase would be the trip back to Manali, ending this experience of a lifetime. It will take about 4-6 hours to reach Manali. If you leave before 9AM, you’ll be reaching Manali well before 4PM(depends on road conditions, stay for the night at Manali and book your return tickets for the next day). Buses from Manali to Delhi leave between 4 and 6 p.m. You will reach Delhi the next morning.
